We recently had the opportunity to speak with Demetres Economides, a consultant at PMCG who specializes in solid waste management and circular economy. With over 40 years of experience, Mr. Economides has worked on environmental projects in various countries and has a wealth of knowledge in this field.
During our conversation, we discussed PMCG’s work in Georgia and Moldova, as well as broader issues in the waste management sector. Mr. Economides emphasized the importance of waste management in promoting sustainable development and addressing environmental challenges. He explained that waste is a major contributor to pollution and having an organized and integrated waste management system is crucial for sustainability.
When it comes to implementing effective waste management systems, Mr. Economides highlighted the 3Rs: reduce, reuse, and recycle. He stressed the need for reducing consumption and reusing materials instead of simply disposing of them. He also mentioned the importance of proper recycling practices and the need for innovative approaches to minimize landfill waste.
One such innovative approach is the project in Moldova, where PMCG is involved. Mr. Economides explained that new technologies have emerged that can process recycled materials, such as turning old plastic into oil and gas. He believes that there is always room for improvement and innovation in waste management systems.
In conclusion, Mr. Economides shared his insights on the importance of waste management in promoting sustainability and the need for continuous improvement and innovation in this sector.
