The recent actions, election promises and statements of the ruling party move Georgia from the European path and show a transition towards authoritarianism – said Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy at the press conference after the meeting of EU foreign ministers.
Josep Borell said that the foreign ministers discussed the planned election in Moldova and Georgia.
“Georgia is a more depressing image. The recent actions, election promises and statements of the ruling party move Georgia away from the European Path and point to a shift towards authoritarianism. De facto, the EU accession is suspended. You know that decisions are made by the Commission regarding access to European funds. Let’s wait until the next parliamentary election, which will be a crucial test for democracy in Georgia as well as its path towards the European Union,” said Josep Borrell.
