**EU Still Open to Georgia, But Government’s Actions a Concern**
The European Union still wants to work with Georgia. However, the country’s government is moving away from joining the EU, according to the bloc‘s foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell.
Borrell said that the way Georgia conducted its recent elections was one example of why the country’s path towards EU membership is being hindered. He mentioned this at a press conference after meeting with EU ministers.
**EU Remains Open to Georgia**
Despite the concerns, the EU still sees value in working with Georgia. Borrell stressed that “the EU door will remain open” for the country. This suggests that Georgia can still join the EU if it takes steps to address its current issues.
However, the government’s actions are a major obstacle to this goal. Borrell stated that Georgia is being taken away from the path of EU integration due to its failure to respect fundamental principles and the rule of law.
