Judge Welcomes Transfer of Railway Station Case
A former Serbian Supreme Court President has welcomed the transfer of a case involving the Novi Sad Railway Station to prosecutors who deal with organized crime.
Retired Judge Vida Petrovic Skero said that the new prosecutors have the power and knowledge to investigate corruption. She expressed concern, however, that the case was only transferred three months after a tragedy at the station killed 15 people.
Petrovic Skero said that she is worried that if the investigation takes too long, people may forget about the case. She also mentioned that there are indications of involvement by high state officials.
The Serbian Supreme Public Prosecution transferred the case to the Organized Crime Public Prosecution on Wednesday. This means that prosecutors can now investigate top-level government officials if they are found to be involved in the tragedy.
