**Ukraine Hit by Largest Cyber Attack in Months**
A massive cyber attack has hit Ukraine’s state registries, but the country‘s Justice Ministry says a full restoration is expected within two weeks.
The attack targeted several government services on December 19, including state registers overseen by the Justice Ministry. The ministry’s First Deputy Minister, Mykola Kucheryavenko, said that the cyberattack was aimed at destabilizing the work of the state registries but that its goals were not achieved.
**Russia Suspected**
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has suggested that Russia’s military intelligence agency (GRU) could be behind the attack. The Justice Ministry is investigating and says it has backup copies of the data, so no information from the registries has been lost.
**War Efforts**
Behind the scenes of fierce battles on the front line, both sides are fighting a cyberwarfare crucial to their war efforts. Ukraine’s Air Force reported shooting down 52 attack drones, including the Shahed type, that Russia launched against the country overnight.
**Casualties Mount**
The number of casualties is mounting, with 1,820 Russian forces suffering just over the past day, according to Ukraine’s Armed Forces. Over 20,000 deaths have been confirmed in the past 12 months, and experts predict this will be the war’s deadliest year yet.
