**Drones Attack Police Barracks in Chechnya**
On December 12, local media and Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov reported that drones attacked the barracks of a police regiment in Grozny, Chechnya. The attack damaged the roof of the building, shattered windows, and lightly injured four men on guard duty.
This is the third reported drone strike against Chechnya during Russia’s war against Ukraine. The previous attacks occurred on December 4 and October 29.
Kadyrov claimed that an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was shot down over police barracks near 1 a.m. on December 12. However, the Kyiv Independent could not verify these claims.
**Russia’s War in Ukraine**
The attack comes as Russia continues its war against Ukraine. The conflict has been ongoing since February 2022, with various incidents and attacks reported throughout the region.
In related news, President Volodymyr Zelensky slammed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for his hour-long call to Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 11. Zelensky expressed concern about Orban’s discussions with Putin, while Orban has yet to comment on the matter.
**International Response**
The European Commission announced 170 million euros ($178 million) in financial support for six European countries bordering Russia and Belarus to bolster their border protection efforts.
EU ambassadors also agreed on a 15th package of sanctions against Russia on December 11. However, the document will not be published due to its sensitive nature.
**Ukraine’s Military Efforts**
Ukraine has allocated 26.3% of its gross domestic product (GDP) to defense and security expenditures for the next year. This includes funds for arms purchases and drone production.
In a separate incident, nine Ukrainian soldiers captured after defending Mariupol were sentenced to between 24 years and a life sentence by Russian occupation authorities in Donetsk.
