**EU Warns Georgia**
The European Union is concerned about new laws in Georgia. The EU says these laws will make it harder for people to express their opinions and for journalists to do their job.
These laws were passed by the Georgian parliament without asking the public what they think. The EU says this is not a good way to build democracy.
**What’s Wrong with the Laws**
The new laws include rules about foreign agents and broadcasting. The EU thinks these laws will:
* Make it harder for people who want change to work together
* Threaten the freedom of journalists and media outlets
* Take away human rights protections
* Give the government too much power
**What Does the EU Want?**
The EU wants the Georgian authorities to stop being so strict. They want the government to:
* Stop hurting citizens who are peacefully protesting
* Release people who have been unfairly arrested
* Put a hold on laws that might be used to silence opposition
* Talk to civil society groups and all political parties about how to fix the current crisis
**Georgia’s Future**
The EU says it’s up to Georgia’s government to decide if the country will join the European Union. But they also say that if Georgia wants to join, it needs to follow EU values like democracy, rule of law, and media freedom.
