Hungary Blocks EU Sanctions Against Georgia
The European Union was unable to agree on imposing sanctions against Georgian officials. Hungary vetoed the plan, saying it needs more time.
This is not the first time Hungary has blocked an EU decision. High Representative Kaja Kallas said at a press conference that this was her first Hungarian veto, but she expects it won’t be the last.
Despite the disagreement, Kaja Kallas remains optimistic. She has been working closely with Hungarian officials and believes they will find a solution together. Other EU members have also proposed ways to overcome the obstacles.
The EU’s foreign ministers met in Brussels to discuss several important issues, but they were unable to reach an agreement on sanctions against Georgia. This issue is not yet resolved, and more work needs to be done.
