Tbilisi mayor Kakha Kaladze commented on the cancellation of the concert “Mgzavrebi”, which was originally planned for the opening the Sea Suburb Park, on October 20. She also commented on the singers’ stance regarding Georgia‘s European Future.
Kaladze was asked which singers will be participating in the upcoming Tbilisi City Hall event. He responded enthusiastically by saying “I sing, and I will sing!” Kaladze invited the public to the event, promising a memorable experience.
Kaladze expressed his understanding of the decision made by “Mgzavrebi”, citing the pressure and criticism that the group had received. He said that Georgia’s future lies in Europe and that the “Georgian Dream” has been responsible for any progress on the road to European integration. He criticized the apparent hypocrisy of the situation by pointing out how some people travel to Russia frequently and question their commitment to an European future. “If you go every week to Russia and take rubles, then what European future are they speaking about?”
When asked why the event coincides on the same day as the “Georgia Chooses the European Union March” on October 20, Kaladze rejected the idea that he was influenced by the plans “radicals.” He said, “Shall i be guided by what radicals will do and gather?
Kaladze concluded his speech by saying that supporters of the “Georgian Dream”, such as Nika Gvaramia, and Nika Meelia could not stand together with the opposition figures. He also criticized the radicalism of the other side.
The concert “Mgzavrebi”, which was part of the opening ceremony of the Sea Suburb Park, was originally planned. The group cancelled their performance due to bullying by the public and pressure from the media. “Mgzavrebi”, a later statement, stated that Georgia’s future lies in Europe.
