Georgia’s Path to European Union Membership
The mayor of the capital city, Kakha Kaladze, spoke at a meeting of Tbilisi City Hall. He explained why Georgia suspended its European integration process.
Kaladze said that “Georgian Dream” made this decision because they don’t want to be blackmailed by other countries. They feel like their status as a candidate country is being used to control them.
Kaladze explained that Georgia wants to join the European Union with dignity and pride. He stated that they have already signed an association agreement, which is a guide for their integration process.
The Prime Minister’s office recently released a statement saying that Georgia continues its European integration. Kaladze said that this statement was clear and understandable, and that there should be no more confusion about the country’s intentions.
Kaladze emphasized that Georgians are proud of their culture, traditions, and past. He believes that these qualities make them interesting to the European family.
