Kakha Kaladze, General Secretary of the Georgian Dream party, spoke about travel and sanctions.
Kaladze said that he has a diplomatic passport. This means he can travel easily to European countries without needing a visa. He also said it’s not a problem if he needs a regular passport or a visa for some trips.
The government is discussing whether people with diplomatic passports will still be able to travel visa-free. Kaladze asked why they should face restrictions, even if they need a visa.
Regarding sanctions, Kaladze said that Georgia was punished for protecting its national interest and economy. He claimed that the country would have been harmed by joining sanctions against Russia. The government was right to keep the economy safe, he argued.
Kaladze wants Europe to be fair and just. He believes this will change soon.
He also denied that the Georgian government has control over the EU‘s decision on opening accession negotiations. Kaladze said it’s up to the EU to decide when to start talks.
Regarding negotiations, Kaladze stated that the EU should open them, and Georgia would sign. He rejected any attempts at blackmail or coercion.
