Tbilisi Mayor Speaks Out Against Sanctions
The mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, is speaking out against sanctions being imposed on him. He says that the Georgian people have given him legitimation, and that he should not be sanctioned.
Kaladze claims that specific individuals were paid to adopt certain resolutions in the European Parliament. He believes this is unfair and causes a sense of injustice among the population. Kaladze also notes that many previous resolutions have been based on lies and misinformation, but says that the current situation is different.
He references the recent parliamentary elections, saying they were peaceful and free. The OSCE/ODIHR concluded that the elections were multi-party and gave voters a choice. However, some groups claimed that the election was rigged, which Kaladze calls “incredible and absurd”.
Kaladze asks why sanctions should be imposed on him when there is no evidence of election fraud. He says it’s a lie and slander to suggest otherwise.
Two resolutions about Georgia have been registered in the European Parliament, but Kaladze believes they are based on lies and misinformation.
