Kakha Kuchava is one of the leaders in the Georgian Dream and has been elected Parliament Speaker. In a secret vote, 86 MPs supported Kuchava, while six voted against.
Kakha Kuchava was also backed by a part of the opposition, the “Citizens”, and the “European Socialists”.
Kuchava spoke to the MPs before the vote, expressing his hope that the rest will also be able to enter parliament.
Only Iago Khviachia of the opposition asked a candidate a question. Before the official selection process, there was no disagreement among MPs.
Archil Talakvadze resigned from his position as Parliament Speaker on April 24. Talakvadze is to be elected Vice-Speaker. Kakha Kuchava was the Speaker of the Parliament in the 10th convocation.
