Russia Admits Hit Air Defence System and Air Base with US Missiles

Russia has made a rare admission that its key air defence system and an air base the were hit by Ukraine using US-supplied missiles. This comes after Ukraine said it had hit targets in the region.

According to Russia’ Defence Ministry, three of five fired by Ukraine were shot down, but two reached their target, damaging a radar system and causing casualties. The ministry also said that a second strike Monday caused “insignificant damage” to an air base after one of eight missiles got through air defences.

The defence ministry statement threatened retaliation and shared photos of debris from the air base attack. Russian military bloggers had already reported the Khalino (Kursk East) air base being hit by Ukraine’s missile strike on Monday.

US Missiles Used in Strikes

This is the first time Russia has admitted to using US-supplied Atacms missiles being used against it. The strikes are believed to be a response to Russia deploying . The use of these powerful missiles marks a significant escalation in the conflict.
