**Ukrainian Musician Declines Human Rights Award**
A Ukrainian musician has turned down a major human rights award. Andriy Khlyvnyuk, the lead singer of the group BoomBox, said he couldn’t accept the honor because one of his co-recipients had doubts about giving Ukraine military aid.
**Khlyvnyuk’s Decision**
Khlyvnyuk is also a soldier in Ukraine’s National Police. He was given the Magnitsky Human Rights Award for his work on human rights and freedom of speech. But he didn’t want to accept it because Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, had said she wasn’t sure if Ukraine should get Western military aid.
**Navalnaya’s Statement**
In an interview with a German newspaper, Navalnaya said that while Vladimir Putin started the war in Ukraine, Russian civilians are also getting hurt. She didn’t say if she was for or against giving Ukraine arms.
**Background**
Russia launched one of its biggest attacks on Ukraine recently, hitting the country’s energy grid and killing many civilians. The Magnitsky Human Rights Award is given to people who work to advance human rights.
