Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced that several officials would be fired. This is because they are involved in a corruption investigation.
The officials being let go include Petro Olenych, the deputy head of the Kyiv City Administration. He was put in jail for two months until April 6. However, he was released on bail of nearly $360,000.
Other officials who will be fired are Yurii Leonov and Oleksii Mushta. They are involved in corruption in the city’s land and budget sectors. Mykhailo Terentiiev, a member of the Kyiv City Council, also plans to resign.
The investigation found that these officials had registered ownership of buildings on land plots that never existed there. This helped them avoid a fair tender for maintenance work.
A court put Denys Komarnytskyi, who is thought to be in charge of the corruption scheme, on the wanted list. Ten people were charged in this case, and seven have been detained.
Kyiv Mayor Klitschko said that there will be changes in how the city plans urban areas and handles land relations. He also promised to help with the investigation into the corruption case.
