Georgian Leader Sees Candidate Status in EU Bid

The chairman of the Dream, , has reacted to a report by the . He believes that if decisions were on objective criteria rather than politics last year, would have already been granted candidate status for EU membership.

According to Kobakhidze, the European Commission’ own evaluation document shows that Georgia should receive candidate status this year, based on objective criteria. He noted that Georgia is ahead of Moldova in almost all areas and suggested that Ukraine was given special treatment due to ongoing in the country.

Kobakhidze stated that he believes there is no alternative for Georgia but to receive candidate status from the EU. The decision will be made by the European Commission, followed by the Council.
