**Prime Minister Defends Police and Government**
Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, spoke at a press conference. He defended the police and government against criticism of their handling of protests.
The Prime Minister said that the police response was better than what is seen in Europe and the USA. He admitted that there were some problems early on, but claimed that measures were taken to prevent further violence.
**Opposition Blamed for Violence**
Kobakhidze blamed opposition leaders and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for the violence during the protests. He said they had played a central role in organizing the demonstrations and were trying to create a “failed Maidan” in Georgia, like what happened in Ukraine.
The Prime Minister also accused these groups of exploiting young people and leading them into harm’s way. He warned parents to keep their children away from these groups, which he called “centers of liberal fascism”.
**Civil Society Criticized**
Kobakhidze criticized civil society organizations for buying equipment and supplies for the protests. He claimed that some foreign actors were involved in this effort.
**Relationship with US**
The Prime Minister also spoke about Georgia’s relationship with the United States. He said that he believed the new US administration would have a better attitude towards Georgia, thanks to their shared values.
He noted that the US had passed laws similar to those passed by the Georgian government, and said that this alignment of values would lead to a “complete reset” in US-Georgia relations.
**Purges Expected**
Kobakhidze hinted at the possibility of purges within the civil service. He said that the sector was self-cleaning, but did not provide further details.
