Georgian Dream party Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze has stated that sending volunteers to Ukraine would mean direct involvement in the military conflict, which the party will not allow. He added that the government is responsible for making decisions regarding this matter.
Kobakhidze also mentioned that the country’s involvement in this situation would be equivalent to sending military forces into a war zone. He stated that the government must make a responsible decision regarding this issue.
The Chairman also addressed the recent news of a plane being sent to Ukraine, stating that he is not aware of the details and it is not his responsibility. He emphasized that the government is directly involved in such matters and must make a responsible decision.
Kobakhidze compared Georgia’s situation to that of the US and EU countries, stating that they have made it clear that they will not be involved in the military conflict. He added that this also applies to sending military forces. He accused the opposition party, the National Movement, of trying to involve Georgia in the war.
When asked why volunteers cannot go to Ukraine from Georgia, Kobakhidze stated that any person can fly to Europe and enter Ukraine. He mentioned that when people from EU member states go to Ukraine, the state does not take responsibility for it.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has announced that he will recall the Ukrainian ambassador from Georgia due to the obstacles being created for volunteer soldiers wanting to travel to Ukraine and Georgia’s refusal to join the sanctions.
In conclusion, Kobakhidze stated that the opposition party is trying to provoke a war in Georgia and the Georgian Dream party will not allow this to happen. He emphasized that they are responsible for the country and will not let it be involved in a military conflict.
