Russian Politician Backs Georgia‘s Decision to Leave PACE
Konstantin Kosachev, the Deputy Speaker of Russia’s Federal Council, has praised Georgia’s decision to leave the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). He said that this move “deserves understanding and respect.”
Kosachev also suggested that Georgia might choose to leave the Council of Europe altogether. He cited Russia’s own experience as an example. According to Kosachev, Georgia has decided to follow a path of development that prioritizes its national interests.
The Russian politician criticized European countries for being too dependent on Ukraine and Moldova. He claimed that these countries have sacrificed their own identity in exchange for visa-free travel with the EU.
Kosachev stated that Georgia’s decision to leave PACE is understandable, given its desire for sovereignty. However, he noted that this move has been met with rejection by PACE.
