**Two Suspects Detained Over Assassination of Russian General**
Russian security forces have arrested two men suspected of killing a top Kremlin general and his assistant in Moscow. The attack happened on December 17.
The suspects are believed to have carried out the killings on orders from Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU). They were detained by police who reviewed footage from surveillance cameras at the scene.
**Details of the Attack**
A homemade explosive device was attached to a scooter, killing Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov and his assistant. The SBU claimed responsibility for the attack.
One suspect, a 29-year-old man, reportedly told police that he had been promised $100,000 for the murder. He said he was in touch with an SBU officer through a messaging app.
**Investigation Ongoing**
Russian officials have not announced any conclusions from their investigation into the assassination. The Kyiv Independent could not verify the claims made by the suspects.
**Background on the Victim**
Kirillov, 54, was the head of Russia’s radiation, chemical, and biological defense troops. He had been charged in absentia by Ukrainian prosecutors for using banned chemical weapons against Ukrainian soldiers.
The UK and Canada have sanctioned Kirillov for his role in using gas attacks against Ukrainian troops.
An SBU source said that Kirillov was a “war criminal” who gave orders to use banned chemical weapons, making him a legitimate target.
