Russia Forms Group for Talks with US on Ukraine War
Russia has started preparing a group to negotiate with the United States about the war in Ukraine. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told Russian media that President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump agreed over the phone to set up talks.
Peskov said Russia will consider past experiences, like the Minsk agreements, when negotiating. The Minsk agreements were signed in 2014 and 2015 but failed to bring lasting peace due to Russia’s actions.
The Kremlin spokesperson also stated that they have not yet decided which countries will participate in potential talks. He confirmed there has been no contact with European nations on this matter.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Trump held separate phone calls, agreeing to start working towards ending the war. Zelensky’s head of Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, said Ukraine will work towards stopping the conflict.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu expressed concerns about Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian villages, stating that Ukraine cannot defend itself against these attacks.
