**Kyiv Coffee Shop Drops Trump Name Amid Growing Discontent**
A coffee shop in Kyiv, Ukraine has changed its name from “Trump” to “Nolan”. The move comes as Ukrainians grow increasingly frustrated with US President Donald Trump’s stance on Ukraine.
The coffee shop, located in the capital’s central Pechersk district, was opened in 2019. It had celebrated Trump’s inauguration with a special “Trump sour” cocktail. However, since then, things have soured for many Ukrainians. The Oval Office showdown, the halting of US military aid and intelligence, and the White House’s wooing of Russia have left many disillusioned.
**Owner’s Decision**
Roman Kravtsov, the creative director of Nolan, had admired Trump as a businessman. However, in light of recent events, it was decided that the name had to go. “I don’t want to dwell on the past,” he said.
Kravtsov also owns another establishment, a pizzeria, which is changing its name to “Nolan”. The pizzeria has removed a pizza from the menu called the “Trumpino”.
**Rebranding as a Shift**
Kravtsov compares this rebranding to a shift after Ukraine’s 2013-2014 EuroMaidan Revolution. A well-known beer chain had changed its name from a Russian word to something more international, he said.
“We’re doing the same now. And it’s not just about the name — it’s about real changes,” Kravtsov added.
**Americanized Names**
In protest of Trump’s actions, Ukrainians have begun jokingly avoiding Americanized names. An Americano is now called a “Ukrainiano” or “Europiano”.
