**Ukrainian Drones Attack Russian Oil Refinery and Gas Plant**
On February 3, Ukrainian drones launched a surprise attack on two major energy facilities in Russia. According to a source from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the drones targeted an oil refinery in Volgograd and a gas processing plant in Astrakhan.
The SBU-operated drones hit the flare farm, primary processing units, and technological units at the Lukoil-owned oil refinery in Volgograd. The gas condensate processing complex at the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant was also damaged. The facility has stopped operations due to a fire that continues to burn.
**Major Fuel Producers Targeted**
Both facilities are significant producers of fuel for the Russian military. The source stated that the Volgograd oil refinery processes almost 6% of all oil in Russia.
**Previous Attacks on Russian Facilities**
This is the fifth attack on Russian oil refineries and other facilities in 2025. Ukrainian drones previously hit a Lukoil-owned oil refinery in Volgograd on January 31. Recent drone strikes also targeted a refinery in Ryazan, a distillery in Tambov Oblast, and a chemical plant in Bryansk.
**Ukraine Confirms Responsibility**
Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed that their forces were behind the attacks, according to reports from Russian authorities about fires and drone attacks against the Volgograd and Astrakhan oblasts overnight.
