**International Community Condemns Russia’s Aerial Strike**
On November 17, Russia launched a massive aerial attack on Ukraine, firing 120 missiles and 90 drones at the country. The attack hit energy infrastructure and residential areas across Ukraine, causing widespread damage.
The international community has strongly condemned this latest act of aggression by Russia. Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp called it “a demonstration that Russia has no intention of ceasing its aggression” since the invasion began over 1,000 days ago. He emphasized that the Netherlands will continue to support Ukraine in all ways possible.
Norway also joined in the condemnations, calling the attack “illegal” and reaffirming its commitment to supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression. U.S. Ambassador to Kyiv Bridget A. Brink noted that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine threatens the security of all Europe.
Moldova, a neighboring country that has already suffered from Russian attacks, condemned the latest strike as well. President Maia Sandu called it “cruel and unacceptable” for Russia to use winter as a means to freeze Ukraine into submission.
**Russia Targets Energy Infrastructure**
The attack on November 17 was the first large-scale missile strike on Kyiv in over two months. Russian forces have instead used drone strikes more frequently in recent months to target the capital. Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko reported that Russia’s latest barrage targeted power generation and transmission facilities throughout Ukraine.
The transmission system operator has taken emergency measures to prevent further damage, but officials had warned of the possibility of renewed attacks on the energy grid as temperatures drop.
