Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that after the meeting of 3+3 Regional Platform in Istanbul on October 18, “the chair and the doors are always open to them” and that “as soon as Tbilisi decided, they can sit in their chair any time.” When asked if he regrets that Tbilisi didn’t take part in Platform, he replied: “We have contact with Tbilisi. There is a Section for Russian Federation Interests in the Embassy Our diplomats are based there. They can discuss current issues directly with the Georgian authorities, especially in the areas of tourism, trade and people-to person contacts. Sergey Lavorv said that despite its name, Georgia isn’t a member. “Once again” (we always confirm this when we meet using this format), we confirmed that the platform’s doors are always open for Georgia. We hope that over time, Georgian neighbors will also be able to participate in its work. In response to a query about the threats to regional stability in the South Caucasus, he said that “one of these serious problems is the well known attempts by the West” to open a second front against Russia. He clarified that the West wanted to “light a new fire” to destabilize Abkhazia & South Ossetia. He concluded that “if those ‘values,’ are used to fund subversion and promote the LGBT agenda, it speaks for itself.” It is a confession, a confession about what these “European Values” represent. Lavrov added: “Most risks we see [in the South Caucasus] relate to the West’s efforts to maximize its influence in this region in order undermine the Russian Federation’s opportunities for equal and reciprocally beneficial cooperation between countries of the South Caucasus.
