**Serbia Pressured to Sanction Russia**
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Serbia is being pressured by the West to impose sanctions on Moscow. He claimed that the US and European Union are demanding that Serbia join the anti-Russian sanctions campaign in exchange for EU membership.
Lavrov accused Western powers of trying to get Serbia to betray its ally, Russia. He said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is refusing to divert from his country’s path towards EU membership.
The situation is complex, with Serbia being asked to recognize Kosovo‘s independence as a condition for joining the EU. Lavrov called this a “self-humiliation” and said it would be wrong for Serbia to impose sanctions on Russia.
He also accused the outgoing Biden administration of trying to use new sanctions against Russia’s energy sector to pull a trick on both Serbia and the incoming Trump administration.
