Lawyers Check on Detainees
Two men, Rati Tkemaladze and Otar Kvaratskhelia, were detained by police near Rustaveli Avenue yesterday. Their lawyers visited them at a temporary detention facility in Digomi.
The detainees are being accused of disobeying the law and violating an administrative rule. However, their lawyer says they did nothing wrong.
According to the lawyer, Mariam Maghradze, the men showed no signs of physical abuse. But they were under psychological pressure. This is because the police officers who arrested them were not wearing uniforms at the time. The detainees thought they were being followed by ‘titushki’, a type of aggressive provocateur.
The lawyers were trying to find out where the detainees had been taken all night, but no one would tell them.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs says the men resisted police. But their lawyer says there was no incident that justified this accusation.
What happened?
Two people were detained by police near Rustaveli metro station. They were accused of wearing balaclavas and masks featuring a politician‘s image, Bidzina Ivanishvili.
The details of the arrest are still unclear.
