Lawyers Hold Protest in Front of Supreme Court
Lawyers and representatives from the field of law gathered in front of the Supreme Court building. They brought banners with different messages, as well as a copy of the Constitution of Georgia.
The protesters are demanding the release of people who were arrested during recent demonstrations. They also want new elections to be held. The lawyers say that their rights and freedoms have not been protected by the judiciary.
A former prosecutor named Maia Mtsariashvili spoke at the protest. She said that the Constitution has become a mere cover, with no guarantees left in place. She criticized the police for being violent, but also pointed out that the judicial system is just as bad. Mtsariashvili said that the fate of justice is decided by one person, and not by the courts.
The lawyers are protesting because they feel that their rights have been ignored. They want to draw attention to the fact that there is no safe place left in the country where people can express themselves freely.
