Levan Davitashvili is the First Vice Premier of Georgia. He stressed the responsibility of Georgia’s partner and friendly countries in ensuring the upcoming elections will be transparent and objective. His remarks are in response to recent comments, including that of the President Gitanas Nuseda, who is from Lithuania.
Davitashvili acknowledged that the usual rhetoric about election transparency was familiar, but he stressed the importance of objective evaluations during the electoral process. He emphasized the need for Georgia’s international allies to take responsible actions in order to ensure a fair, transparent election. This is especially important as the election date nears.
“The rhetoric that we have heard in the last few days does not surprise us.” Davitashvili said that in many cases processes are evaluated subjectively. This is not good because we are in an election process. “In this case, the greatest responsibility lies with all of our partner and friendly nations to make our electoral process as transparent as possible and as objective as we can.”
Davitashvili said that with less than 10 days until the election, “We should allow the population to participate in the polls objectively, without any pressure, and make a good choice.”
This response follows comments made by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nuseda who stated that the upcoming Georgian election is critical as it will determine the direction of the country, especially in relation to its European Integration goals.
