**Georgia‘s Economy is Not Just Due to War**
The minister of economy in Georgia, Levan Davitashvili, spoke out against a statement made by the German ambassador. The ambassador said that Georgia’s economic growth is due to Russia‘s war on Ukraine.
Davitashvili said it was disappointing to hear this from an important partner country. He stated that the economic growth of Georgia is not just because of the war. Instead, it is largely due to reforms made by the government years ago.
**Reforms Led to Economic Growth**
According to Davitashvili, many countries in a similar geography have more liberal economic relations with Russia. However, they are not growing at the same rate as Georgia. He said that this shows Georgia’s economy is doing well despite challenges.
Davitashvili also mentioned that forecasts from international financial institutions confirm that Georgia will grow faster than other countries. He believes that a small positive effect of 1-2% could increase economic growth in the region, but it is not the main reason for Georgia’s success.
**German Ambassador’s View**
The German ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, had earlier stated that Georgia’s economic growth is a windfall from Russia’s attack on Ukraine. He said this type of profit does not last and highlighted structural problems in Georgia’s economy.
