**Georgia Aims to Boost Transport and Logistics Sector**
The government wants to make Georgia’s transport and logistics sector more competitive. This will help create efficient connections between the country and Europe, said Levan Davitashvili, a candidate for Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.
**More Cargo Coming Through Georgia**
In 2023, cargo through Poti and Batumi seaports increased by 47%. The number of processed containers reached 701,442 TEU. This is a big improvement from the 477,094 TEU in 2022.
**Direct Ferry Lines to Europe**
To connect Georgia with the European Union better, work will continue on adding direct ferry lines to Bulgaria and Romania. Traffic intensity on the Black Sea will also be increased.
**Important Transport Projects**
Levan Davitashvili mentioned several transport projects that will help Georgia attract more cargo. The development of the Anaklia deep-water harbor is one such project. It’s almost complete, and the port should start operating by 2029 at the latest. The first phase will have a capacity of 600,000 containers per year.
**Railway Modernization**
Another important project is railway modernization. This will increase the annual capacity from 27 million to 48 million tons. If needed, it can go up to 100 million tons with an automatic blocking system.
