Commission Criticized for Not Investigating Past Government’s Crimes
The leader of the party “Gakharia for Georgia,” Levan Gogichaiashvili, has spoken out against a commission that he says is not doing its job. The commission was set up to investigate crimes committed by the previous government.
According to Gogichaiashvili, the chairman of the commission, Tea Tsulukiani, is not asking victims about police officers and judges who were involved in mistreating citizens during the previous government’s time in power.
This lack of investigation, says Gogichaiashvili, proves that the commission is not serious about finding justice for those affected. The commission was created by a parliament that many people think was elected unfairly.
The chairman of the commission, Tea Tsulukiani, has been criticized for her role in the previous government’s mistreatment of citizens. She was defeated in court by judges who were loyal to the previous president, Mikheil Saakashvili.
Gogichaiashvili says that the true goal of the commission is not to find justice for the crimes committed by the “Natsists,” but to cover up the mistakes of the current government. The commission has delayed its work for 13 years and is now being used to try and make the previous government look bad.
Gogichaiashvili says that people in Georgia must have the truth about what happened during the previous government’s time in power. He promises that his party will tell the public the full story, including details about judges who were appointed for life by the current government and are still serving today.
