**Georgian Opposition Calls for New Elections and Reforms**
The opposition group “Field of Freedom” is urging the ruling party, “Georgian Dream“, to follow a resolution from the Council of Europe. This resolution asks for new elections in Georgia, the release of political prisoners, and further integration with Europe.
Levan Tsutskiridze, leader of “Field of Freedom”, spoke out alongside his supporters. He warned that if “Georgian Dream” does not comply, Georgia could be completely excluded from European organizations.
Tsutskiridze said: “We are facing a historical catastrophe due to the policies of ‘Georgian Dream’. We must take decisive steps to restore democracy and human rights.”
Georgia’s representatives in the Council of Europe have been restricted. They cannot observe major elections or work on human rights committees. The Council has set an April 7th deadline for significant reforms.
These include:
* Starting a dialogue to resolve the country‘s political crisis
* Restoring European integration
* Improving relations with the Council of Europe
* Ending police violence and human rights abuses
* Conducting investigations
Tsutskiridze emphasized: “It is essential that new elections are held and political prisoners are released. If not, we risk being excluded from the European Union and other European mechanisms.”
He reminded Georgians that a crucial date is approaching in their country’s history.
