Liberty Bank and the non-governmental organization Partnership for Human Rights have joined forces to improve access to banking services for people with disabilities. This partnership is in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and aims to create a more inclusive banking environment.
Under the leadership of Liberty’s new team, an audit was conducted by the NGO Partnership for Human Rights to assess the accessibility of banking products for people with disabilities. This resulted in the development of an accessibility assessment document, which is the first of its kind to be used in the private sector and commercial banks.
Experts, civil society, and people with disabilities were invited to lead the process, ensuring that their needs and perspectives were taken into account. The evaluation document, which was created by synthesizing similar methodologies, will contribute to the improved services for persons with disabilities in the bank.
Based on the evaluation, a Liberty Work Plan will be developed to make banking services more accessible for people with disabilities. This plan will align with the standards set by the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Tea Leshkasheli, Deputy General Director and Operations Director of Liberty Bank, explains that their team’s efforts are focused on transforming the bank and introducing innovative products and services. The bank’s strategy, “New Liberty for a New Life,” prioritizes caring for people and aims to improve the lives of individuals and families in Georgia by offering simple and affordable banking options.
As Liberty Bank is the third largest bank in Georgia with a wide network, they have been serving people with disabilities and their families for many years. However, with their transformation process, they recognize the importance of creating an adapted environment and offering services and products tailored to the needs of people with disabilities.
Ana Abashidze from the NGO Partnership for Human Rights praises Liberty Bank’s initiative to critically evaluate their activities and make positive changes. She notes that working in partnership with important actors, such as the private sector, is crucial in raising human rights standards and addressing the challenges faced by people with disabilities.
