Russia Bars 30 U.K. Nationals from Entering its Territory
Russia’s Foreign Ministry has banned 30 British nationals, including politicians and journalists, from entering the country. This decision was made on November 26.
The list includes several high-ranking officials, such as Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and Finance Minister Rachel Reeves. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and Climate Secretary Ed Miliband are also on the list.
Russia made this move in response to the U.K.’s support for Ukraine. The British government recently allowed Ukraine to strike deep into Russian territory using Western-supplied missiles, known as Storm Shadows. London also imposed its largest package of sanctions against Russia’s oil tankers.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry blamed “Russophobic policies” and “disinformation about our country” for the tensions between the two nations. The U.K.’s decision to support Ukraine is seen as an escalation in their diplomatic spat.
