Lithuanian Gas Company to Send Vehicles and Generators to Ukraine

Amber Grid, the gas transportation system operator of , has approved the transfer of 55 vehicles and four generators to as humanitarian aid. The total value of this aid is estimated at nearly 62,000 euros ($70,000).

Since the invasion on 24 February, Ukraine has been facing severe destruction of its energy system. Russian attacks on power plants, electrical substations, and other key infrastructure have left millions of without electricity, heat, and water.

According to the company’s press service, the 55 vehicles, which are between five to eleven years old, were previously used in the gas transportation system and are in good condition. decided to donate these vehicles after signing a new lease agreement, making the old ones unnecessary. CEO stated that this assistance is a moral incentive for others to support Ukraine in its fight for freedom. He also emphasized that these vehicles, including off-road vehicles with high mileage, will be useful for services in conducting repair work and responding quickly to changing situations.

The first batch of vehicles will be sent to Ukraine’s resident services, while the rest will be used to help restore the damaged energy infrastructure.

This is not the first time Amber Grid has provided aid to Ukraine. In June 2023, the company donated generators and pipeline restoration equipment worth 108,000 euros ($121,000), following a similar donation in 2022.

It has also been reported that Lithuania is considering transferring 17 fire trucks to Ukraine. These trucks were detained in Klaipeda last year due to sanctions and were originally intended for Zimbabwe.

Lithuanian has announced plans to provide additional aid worth 40-50 million euros ($45-56 million) to Ukraine this year.

In conclusion, Amber Grid’s donation of vehicles and generators to Ukraine is a significant contribution to the country’s efforts to rebuild its energy infrastructure. This aid, along with other donations from Lithuania, shows the country’s support for Ukraine in its struggle for freedom.
