Luxembourg Foreign Minister Speaks Out on Georgia Elections
The foreign minister of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel, spoke to reporters before a meeting with European Union officials in Brussels. He discussed the recent elections in Georgia.
Mr. Bettel said that if they want to impose sanctions related to the election, they should first look for evidence of fraud. He mentioned that there were many observers at the election and wanted to see if there was any wrongdoing. He did not think it was right to punish a party just because they didn’t like their results.
He also criticized the government in Georgia for how they treated protesters after the election. Mr. Bettel said that this kind of violence is unacceptable. However, he believed that those responsible for the violence should be punished, not the whole political party.
