Mamuka Mdinaradze, the leader of “Georgian Dream”, made a statement about Mikheil Kavelashvili not having a diploma. He said that loving one’s country and being loyal do not require a degree.
When asked if this was a problem for the future President, Mdinaradze replied no. He explained that many countries’ constitutions do not mention diplomas as necessary qualifications for Parliament members or Presidents.
According to Mdinaradze, not requiring diplomas is a democratic achievement. A person can be public-minded and professional without a degree. Even Parliament members may not need diplomas, but rather be good citizens and loyal to their country.
Mdinaradze pointed out that certificates from government jobs often mention master’s degrees, but this does not apply to Presidents or MPs. He said that loving one’s country is more important than having a diploma.
