European Council Session on December 16
The European Council session is taking place on December 16. According to Mamuka Mdinaradze, leader of the parliamentary majority in Georgia, this date was crucial for the opposition party.
Mdinaradze said that the opposition had planned riots on this day because they thought the European Commission would refuse to open negotiations with Georgia. However, these plans were foiled and this main lever was taken away from them.
The opposition’s plans for the next four years were based on this date. They expected there to be disturbances when the European Council meeting took place every fall and spring. The ruling team in Georgia has now disrupted their plans.
According to Mdinaradze, with this decision, the ruling team avoided riots from December 16 to New Year’s Day. He said that people should think carefully about what they are protesting for and check the truth.
On December 16, a document will be signed that opens negotiations between Georgia and the European Commission. The ruling team does not plan on signing it.
