Georgian Leader Speaks Out on EU Ambassador Meeting with Minister
The leader of the parliamentary majority, Mamuka Mdinaradze, has spoken about the recent meeting between the European Union‘s ambassador to Georgia, Pawel Herchinsky, and the country‘s minister of foreign affairs. In a statement, Mdinaradze said that life will go on as usual despite this meeting.
Mdinaradze described Herchinsky as “a great person personally,” but noted that he voices instructions from others when given. He emphasized that the legitimacy of the government comes from the Georgian people and not from European representatives.
According to Mdinaradze, the meeting between Herchinsky and Minister Maka Bochorishvili was a normal part of diplomatic relations and should not be made into an issue. He stated that other ambassadors will also meet with the minister and that life will continue as usual.
The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously announced the meeting between Herchinsky and Bochorishvili, sparking some reaction in the country.
