Mamuka Minadaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream Party, stressed that Georgia‘s European Integration is based on Christian and traditional values. He rejected the notion that Europeanism can be used to “bait” the country. He emphasized the significant economic growth of the nation and reaffirmed his party’s commitment in maintaining Georgia’s cultural identity and sovereignty.
Mdinaradze, speaking at an election campaign in Kutaisi said that for Georgians Europe is not some distant ideal, but rather a natural extension to the country’s longstanding Christian and cultural tradition. He rejected the idea that European Integration could be used against the country. He asserted that Georgian values were inherently European, rooted in their faith and history. He stressed that the Georgian Dream would work to strengthen this interpretation.
Mdinaradze emphasized the economic success of Georgia, noting the country’s remarkable 10% growth rate. This places Georgia at the top of European economy. He said that Georgia’s independent policy, which did not bow to external pressures, was responsible for this growth. “We are going to Europe without a hand outstretched,” he said. He was celebrating that Georgia had achieved EU candidate status, while maintaining its dignity.
Mdinaradze claimed that the ruling party has refused to adopt foreign-imposed policies, including its stance against same-sex marriages and banning LGBT propaganda. He claimed that these actions aligned with the conservative values of Georgian society and reflected the country’s commitment in defending its traditional identity.
“Europeanism is not a lure for us.” “Europe and Europeanness are for us traditional, with Christian Values, and we will also try to strengthen this in Europe,” Mdinaradze said during his speech.
“Georgian Dream achieved the impossible,” he said. With an economic growth rate exceeding 10%, we are leading not only in the region but also in Europe.
Mdinaradze elaborated further on the government’s position on sovereignty. He said, “We became an EU candidate country without standing on one leg, refusing decisions from the outside.”
He emphasized the importance of preserving Georgian values, citing the legacy of Ilia. “We will fulfill Ilya’s words, that estate, faith, and language will be our first warning.”
Mdinaradze was not afraid to criticize the opposition. He accused them of betraying their country’s interests and aligning themselves with external forces. He blamed former president Mikheil Sakaashvili, as well as other opposition leaders, for past national failures and urged voters not to accept them.
He called for national unity in the run-up to the election.
Mdinaradze concluded his speech by reaffirming the Georgian Dream’s European approach, which is centered around peace, dignity and prosperity. He promised that this path would lead Georgia to full European Integration. “Only with dignity, only with peace, only towards Europe.”
