Protesters March to Parliament Building in Tbilisi
A march has started from Republic Square towards the Parliament building. The protesters are internally displaced persons from occupied territories. They have blocked a part of the road.
Before the march, the participants sang the national anthem of Georgia. They chanted slogans such as “Georgia”, “Abkhazia is Georgia”, and “No to Russia”.
Protesters carried banners with messages like “Gali is here”, “Sukhumi is here”, “Gagra is here”, “Call for new elections”, and more. One protester said, “This government is illegitimate and must go.”
The marcher continued, “I am a displaced person from Abkhazia. We have been waiting for a dignified return to Abkhazia for over 30 years. When the government tells us that we must apologize to the separatists, from that day on, we consider that government to be illegitimate.”
Many other protests and marches are planned in Tbilisi today. These include the artists‘ march, the observers‘ march, and the ESM march for Europe.
The protesters are upset with the Georgian Dream party’s decision not to discuss EU membership until 2028. They demand new elections and the release of those arrested during the protests.
Protests have been going on in the capital and several cities for 18 days.
