The 36th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Adm. Mykhailo Blynskyi has been equipped German Marder 1A3 Infantry Fighting Vehicles.
The 36th Separate Brigade of Ukraine has reported that the country’s marines have received German Marder 1A3 Infantry Fighting Vehicles.
The vehicles have shown impressive capabilities on the battlefield, and their deployment in marine units will enhance Ukraine’s defences, firepower and troop protection while transporting.
Militarnyi reported that the brigade’s photos showed crew training in Marders, driving and repair, as well as maintenance.
Infantry soldiers are also required to conduct exercises on vehicles, involving coordination and joint assault maneuvers.
In total, the Ukraine has received 130 Marder 1A3 Infantry Fighting Vehicles from Germany. These vehicles were repaired and upgraded at Rheinmetall’s facilities in Unterluss, Kassel and Kassel where the company’s primary production facilities are located.
The Marder IFV has a 20 mm Rh202 automatic gun and a 7.62 mm MG3 machinegun mounted co-axially on its two-person turret. The Rh202 cannon fires rounds of 20x139mm. The vehicle can accommodate ten soldiers including three crew members.
Previously, Rheinmetall had supplied Ukraine with 20 additional Marder IFVs.
The total number of vehicles sent into Ukraine has now reached 200, and more than half are Marder 1A3 models. Rheinmetall also sent Leopard main battle tanks from Germany to Ukraine.
