Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the US State Department, said that the United States stands by the Georgian people.
Miller also spoke again about the USA’s response to the actions taken by the Georgian government, and stated that they “will never hesitate” to take additional measures if needed.
“Of Course, we stand with the Georgian people.” We made it clear that we stand with the Georgian people. We have made it clear we support the Georgian people’s ambition to join the European Union and to continue their integration with European and Atlantic partners.
You know that we are reviewing a large amount of our aid to the Georgian government and have suspended $95,000,000 of that aid due to the actions that we have observed. Matthew Miller said that we would continue to assess whether additional measures are appropriate and, if they are, we wouldn’t hesitate to take them.
The spokesperson for the US State Department stated that he would refrain from making a public statement about possible additional sanctions.
