**Media Freedom Concerns in Georgia**
Journalists and media workers in Georgia are facing violence and intimidation since pro-European protests began on November 28. The Co-Chairs of the Media Freedom Coalition (MFC), Estonia and Germany, have expressed deep concern.
Over 70 cases of interference and violence against journalists and media workers have been documented by the “Georgian Charter of Journalistic Ethics”. This includes attacks on leading women journalists. The MFC Co-Chairs strongly condemn all forms of intimidation and violence against journalists and media workers.
They demand thorough investigations into these incidents, calling for those responsible to be held accountable. The authorities are urged to stop using excessive force against journalists covering the protests.
**International Backing**
The statement has been endorsed by 23 countries, including Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States. They call on Georgian authorities to uphold their commitments to media freedom and journalist safety.
