Polish farmers protested on Nov. 23 in the village of Medyka, near the border with Ukraine.
They blocked a road leading to the Shehyni border crossing. The protest is against the Polish government‘s decision not to keep the agricultural tax rate the same for 2024 as it was in 2023.
Farmers also worry about a trade agreement between the EU and some South American countries. This deal could affect their business, they believe.
Only one truck from Poland to Ukraine can pass through the crossing per hour. Cars, buses, and vehicles with humanitarian aid or military supplies are allowed to pass.
The protest is supposed to last 48 hours. If their concerns are not met, farmers are ready to continue protesting until the end of the year.
Polish farmers have protested at borders between Poland and Ukraine several times since a war started in Ukraine. They also protested against Ukrainian agricultural imports into the EU.
