Plane Crash: Russian Missile Possible Culprit?
A plane that was flying from Azerbaijan to Russia may have been shot down by a Russian surface-to-air missile. This is according to reports from independent Russian media.
The plane, which was carrying 67 people, crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan on December 25. Most of those on board were citizens of Azerbaijan, Russia, or other nearby countries.
Reports suggest that Chechnya was attacked by drones on the same day as the crash. Some people who were on the plane reported hearing an explosion after the pilot tried to land in Grozny, Russia.
Footage shows damage to the tail section of the plane, which looks like it might have been caused by a surface-to-air missile. Similar damage has been seen on other planes that have been hit by missiles.
Survivors said they heard an explosion when the pilot tried to land in Kazakhstan. The plane then broke apart and caught fire.
The Russian government initially said the plane crashed because it collided with birds, but this claim is being questioned.
A black box from the crash has been recovered and its contents will be analyzed to see what really happened.
