**Coffin Prices Soar in Russia**
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the price of coffins in Russia has risen by 74%, according to a report by the Moscow Times on December 5. The Federal State Statistics Service (RosStat) made this claim.
Russia is still at war with Ukraine and has been for over two years now. Despite losing a record number of soldiers in November, Russian forces continue to advance in eastern Ukraine. A total of nearly 750,000 troops have been lost by Russia since the beginning of the war.
In January 2022, a coffin cost around 4,437 rubles ($44). However, this price jumped to 7,711 rubles ($76) in October 2024. The rapid rise in coffin prices began when Russia started its full-scale invasion of Ukraine and continued after mobilization was announced in September 2022.
**Price Increases**
The cost of coffins increased by:
* 48% in 2022
* Almost 12% in 2023
* Another 10% in the first nine months of 2024
In some regions, coffin prices went up even more. In Sakhalin, for example, prices rose by 181%, while Omsk Oblast saw an increase of 162%.

On November 19-25, Russia’s monthly inflation hit a record high, rising over 1.5 times compared to October.
Ukraine’s Air Force intercepted 30 out of 44 Russian drones launched overnight, and two Iskander-M ballistic missiles were fired by Russia during the assault.
North Korean soldiers have been stationed in Russia’s Kursk Oblast as a “second echelon” not involved in direct combat.
