The aircraft will be upgraded from air-policing capabilities to multi-role battle capabilities.
France may send up to 20 Mirage 2000-5F fighter jets to Ukraine in 2025, as reported by Avionslegendaires.net.
The decision by European countries to continue to support Ukraine in its defense against the Russian invasion that began more than two and a quarter years ago is part of their ongoing commitment to help Ukraine improve its defense capabilities. This move will provide Ukraine with an effective tool to help it repel Russian forces and defend its sovereignty.
Sebastien Lecornu, the French Defense Minister, announced on 8th October that France would deliver the Dassault Aviation Mirage 2000-5F to Ukraine in 2025. While the exact number of aircraft remains confidential, sources cited by Avionslegendaires.net indicate that Ukraine will receive between twelve and twenty of these advanced fighter jets.
Mirage 2000-5F aircraft undergo modifications to improve their capabilities. According to the report the fighters will be upgraded from their original role of air policing to become multi-role battle aircraft. One of the key upgrades is the ability to launch and carry SCALP EG cruise missiles. This weapon system is already used by the Ukrainian Air Force.
Lecornu said that the delivery was scheduled for the first quarter 2025, between the 1 January and the 30 March. In preparation for the transfer of aircraft, French teams are providing advanced training to mechanics and armored vehicles and conducting operational conversion training with Ukrainian pilots.
Avionslegendaires.net notes that it remains unclear whether the package will include any two-seat Mirage 2000B variants for training purposes.
